5 #Makeup Must Haves for the Summer

Summer is already upon us, evident by the heat in the air. I feign to think what June/July/August will bring if it is this hot already. While we should remember to stock pile on SPF more in the summer  (all year round too), there are quite a few items I believe are a must have to looking fresh and glowy even when its hot out.

1. Sunscreen

Yes I mentioned this before, but I cannot begin to stress the importance of SPF. Guys, this goes for you too. Over exposure to the sun and its harmful rays can result in pre-mature aging, skin cancer and age spots. Research has shown that excessive exposure to UV rays can also impede the body's immune system. As such, avoiding hazardous UV rays are essential to preventing skin damage. Use  a broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF. The higher the SPF, the greater the sun protection. Look for one that is non comodonogenic . And remember suncreen is not just for sunny days, it should be used all year round even if its cloudy.

2. Bronzer

Yes we are already "bronzed". But if you want to achieve a gorgeous sun-kissed, golden tan type glow, then a bronzer is the way to go. Apply to areas that are naturally "kissed by the sun".  Your cheeks, forehead, tip of your nose and your chin.

How to apply bronzer:

3. Coral Blush

Coral blush makes any skin tone look alive. Try a cream textured product if you have dry skin, and powder based if you have oily skin. Try NYX's Cream Blush in Orange, or powder blush in Cinnamon. If you like amore glowy look, try the Mosaic Powder Blush in Love

4.  Orange Hued Lipstick/ Gloss

In keeping with this summer's coral trend, orange lips are a must have. Coral is a bit more subdued than orange 9which can be a bit intimidating) and thus easier to wear. To maek it work for you, here are some tips:

  1.  Keep the rest of your face clean
    • Make your lips the focal point. we don't want to look overdone. Add a shimmering champagne shadow, mascara and bronzer and that should be good to go.
  2. Mix your colours
    • If you find that a shade my be too much for you (or not enough), try mising it with a pink to subdue or a red to make it bolder.
  3. Try a semi sheer gloss
    1. If you're still scared to go full orange pout, try a gloss. It will make a subtle statement without being too bold.

5. Orange Nail Polish

Universally flattering for all skin tones. Get rid of those shoes and give your toes (and fingers) two coats of colour worth showing off!
