#NYX Powder Blush Swatches

Before I purchase any cosmetic product, no matter the item or brand, the first thing I do is Google. I search for reviews on the product. How it wears in different climates, on different skin types, and most particularly on skin tones similar to mine.

I will be doing a series of NYX swatches, from foundation, jumbo pencils, eye shadows, blushes etc. Yes it's already been done but I think that sometimes it is a bit more challenging than some to find correct swatches on dark skinned lovlies.  Since blushes are an item I know not a lot of people will take chances with, I will start there.  I have put together all my NYX Powder Blushes (its the full set minus 1 or 2)

These are very pigmented as you will see in the photos. They were swatched once with my finger on bare skin. They also blend out pretty nicely (if the colours scare you) and will last all day without any touch up needed.

Quite a few persons have been writing and asking me about the coloured NYX concealers (green, yellow, orange and lavender) listed on the website www.significantdetails.com, and also in the store. Here's a short guide on how and why they are used.

5 #Makeup Must Haves for the Summer

Summer is already upon us, evident by the heat in the air. I feign to think what June/July/August will bring if it is this hot already. While we should remember to stock pile on SPF more in the summer  (all year round too), there are quite a few items I believe are a must have to looking fresh and glowy even when its hot out.

1. Sunscreen

Yes I mentioned this before, but I cannot begin to stress the importance of SPF. Guys, this goes for you too. Over exposure to the sun and its harmful rays can result in pre-mature aging, skin cancer and age spots. Research has shown that excessive exposure to UV rays can also impede the body's immune system. As such, avoiding hazardous UV rays are essential to preventing skin damage. Use  a broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF. The higher the SPF, the greater the sun protection. Look for one that is non comodonogenic . And remember suncreen is not just for sunny days, it should be used all year round even if its cloudy.

Takes from the #MetGala 2011

The Met Costume Institute Gala is often referred to as the "East Coast Oscars" and with good reason: Hollywood's hottest celebs come out to celebrate fashion, and as a result, the glamour quotient is off the charts.

The Royal Wedding

Only because everyone is obsessed it seems, I had to post on the Royal Wedding. I am actually more interested in what they wore as opposed to all the festivities. I mean happy for them and all, but i guess i just wasn't bitten by the royal wedding bug. So here goes...

Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen was the designer of Kate Middleton's dress. I was expecting more frills and what not, but was pleasantly surprised by simple elegance of it.

Mother of the bride, Carole Middleton, was all smiles in all baby blue.

Grand-daughters to Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Eugenie wore a cobalt blue Vivienne Westwood outfit, while Princess Beatrice wore a blush Valentino number, both in Phillip Treacy hats. (Do they look like Cinderella's evil step-sisters?)

New Trend - Men in Nail Polish?!

During my daily online readings recently, I came across these pictures of a few celebs taking Metro to a whole new level. Believe it or not, the first thing that came to mind after absorbing what I read was "I wonder how long before this is the in thing in JA?" Because you know we are literally unable to pass up on a fad from across the shores. Just like a full suit of leather or furry boots in the middle of Half Way Tree, in the middle of the day, in the middle of July, we just gots to be in it if its happening.

Put a Pause on Pink, CORALS ARE SO IN!

Coral hues are the 'It' makeup trend of spring and summer 2011! Orange has been exploding on runways, red carpets, and all over Rihanna's racy "S&M" music video, this hue is here to stay! Now, we know that in theory, wearing orange blush or lipstick may seem kind of loud, so opt for formulas that are sheer, shimmery or blended with enough warm undertones to make them super-wearable and wildly flattering.

Check out picks from NYX's Professional Line that will get you more than half way to achieving the coral trend. Whether you're going for subtle or super bold, its all there.  All items can be purchased here in Jamaica at www.signifcantdetails.com. All Visa/MasterCard are processed securely through PayPal. For persons without credit cards, bank transfers are also accepted and cash on delivery is accepted for pickup orders! Details given during checkout. We also make island wide deliveries!

Vybz Kartel set to apply for admission to #UWI

Las May's cartoon in last Wednesday's Gleaner humorously insinuated that the University of the West Indies was about to erect a 'rampin shop' because I'd invited Vybz Kartel to give a lecture on his life and art.

And there was Wilmot Perkins, prophet of doom and gloom, ominously declaring, "See't ... proof that UWI is an intellectual ghetto!" Of course, opening up the university to popular culture is the very opposite of enclosing the institution in the narrow confines of a ghetto. But that subtlety appears to have been lost in the broad humour.
Erecting an academic rampin shop might seem like a complete contradiction in terms. The life of the intellect is often presumed to be purely cerebral. And rampin, as in Spice and Kartel's shop, is definitely a lower order, hands-on sport: "Every man grab a gyal ... and every gyal grab a man."
But the best of universities really are rampin shops in which passionate, creative energy flows freely. That 'eureka' moment of insight when a difficult mathematical problem is solved, or a dense passage of prose suddenly releases its meaning, is practically orgasmic.
In fact, we often use sexy images to talk about academic concepts.

Nomaddz & Puma Ads

Hey Guys, I know its been a while since i have written anything. But feeling the buzz again as i came across these two new ads from Puma featuring Nomaddz. Now if you don't know who Nomaddz are, they are an exciting Jamaican band that are quickly taking the place by storm. Can i tell you, the first time i heard them, i thought they were on crack (no offense, but they did seem realllly high! lol) but they do grow on you and man do i think they are awesome. Check out the clips below to get a glimpse of the supernatural high these guys have.

Spring 2011 Jewellery Trends from Fashion Week

For spring 2011 there was a complete change in attitude and move away from the minimalism look from fall. The necklaces were large, sparking a return of the bib necklace from a few seasons ago. Chokers returned to the runway, reminiscent of the choker trend from roughly a decade ago. The bibs and the chokers on the European runways for spring were decadent, embellished and anything but minimal.

There were also cuffs on the spring 2011 runways. The cuffs were bold and featured stones, beads and other embellishments which could easily blend together with a choker or bib necklace.

The third most notable jewelry trend from the runways were long, shoulder brushing earrings. The last time the long, shoulder length earrings were on the runway in such full force was about one decade ago. Roberto Cavalli showed feather earrings. Chanel showed shoulder skimming feather earrings as well as shorter dangles which hit about mid-neck, yet were bold and easy to spot from several yards away. Dolce & Gabbana went more for a classic yet bold approach to the large earring trend for spring 2011. D & G showed large, gold bangle earrings reminiscent of the late 1980's and early 1990's.

Jewelry is back with a vengeance! Minimalism has gone by the wayside as we move into the resort and spring seasons. This is a great trend to shop your closet and look for those bib necklaces from a few season ago as well as those cuffs and chokers from ten years ago. The long earrings and bold earrings might be a good trend to buy new and invest in one or two fabulous pairs of statement earrings. The styles are fresh and very different from the last time bold earrings were in style.

NYX Dupes for MAC Products

Hola!

I came across this list while browsing. I know a few people have been asking about the quality of the NYX Cosmetics and how they compare to MAC.

NYX is actually a great alternative. The colour pay-off is amazing, the products don't fade easily and are extremely pigmented. The mere fact that this line is catching on as a Pro (Make-up Artist) favourite should speak volumes.

And remember, all items that are listed below can be purchased from Significant Details on our website at www.significantdetails.com.
